March 20th Lesson Review

This was a “hello” to Spanish.  So we focused on ways of saying hello and good bye. Through the vocabulary introduced in this lesson, we not only learned about greetings, but also some basics of pronouncing Spanish words.  We also had an introduction to letters and numbers.

For our next lesson, we will be introducing some vocabulary from around the home (including family members).  We will also learn how to conjugate and use the verbs “ser” and “estar”.  Both verbs translate to English as “to be”, but there are rules that we will cover in class about when to use which in Spanish.  Just so you know, you have already started using “estar”.  We learned estás and está.  These are the informal and formal version of the second person.

I now close with a list of words that are some basic essentials (most of them we covered in class):
§  yo- I
§  tú- you (informal/familiar)
§  el- he or the masculine version of “the”
§  ella –she
§  ellos –they masculine version
§  ellas –they feminine version
§  usted – you (formal)
§  ustedes – you (plural, formal or informal)
§  la- feminine version of “the”
§  los – the (plural, masculine)
§  las- the (plural, feminine)
§  y – and
§  o –or
